My first recipe submission.

Right now, i'm eating my dinner and will momentarily rush off to get ready for church. But before i go, i want to tell you a thing or two. First, i have been honored with a recipe submission from a couple of dear friends.  Today i got to try it out, and i hope to share it with you this evening after church.  Possibly very late evening - so you know, look for it in the morning.  ;) Second, i feel very honored to have had a recipe submitted.  I didn't really know what to do about it, so i had to think it through to decide how to present it on my blog. The sharer of this recipe is Jan.  Jan does not currently read my blog, but perhaps this might change, since she'll have to read her recipe when i post it this evening.  Jan is a quiet sweet lady, who cooks the most wonderful yumminesses, loves to share them with others, and whom i think does not know how dear she is to my heart.  This is me telling her - and you.  She is dear to my heart. He...

Let's Get Spiritual

The other day, i was feeling weighed down. I was concentrating too much on my circumstances and not enough on my Lord. I knew i needed to fill my spirit with His word, but my current reading in Exodus wasn't going to sit well at this moment. And then something very special happened. One of the most famous and well-recognized and oft-memorized scriptures in the Bible came alive to me. I don't think it ever has before - not like this. I know you've heard it before, so don't stop reading.  Maybe you'll get something out of it. It's Psalm 23.  The part in bold italics is the scripture.  The part after is what i learned by looking up the meanings of the words - or just what it means to me. I guess there's a reason why it's so popular. The Lord is my Shepherd. Shepherd:  ruler, teacher, caregiver What better shepherd could i have? I shall not want. I shall not lack, be without, decrease, or a have a need. He makes me lie down in green pa...

The Conquering of Nations

We moved here approximately one year and ten months ago.  This home that i absolutely love was a little bit .... pieced together.  That, and the dear and elderly couple who lived here, hadn't lived here full-time in years.  What i'm trying to get at is that when we moved in, there was lots to do in the way of cleaning before i was willing to put my belongings in the cabinets, etc. It was a lot of work, work i was more than willing to do.  Might be dirty, but it's my dirt now, and i'm happy about it!  Or something like that. But at some point on the way to semi-organization, i plum wore out. Do you remember this gigantic island that sits in the middle of my kitchen? There it is.  This is a picture i took a year and half ago or so, while my house was clean. I was taking pictures for my mom, and i didn't want to miss the clean moment.  Anyway, this island is so big that it's hard to get the whole thing in one picture.  It's a wonderful size...

Romantic Paper Goods

Saturday went like this: We got up (at some point that i'm sure the chickens did not approve of) and lazed around and stared at each other with foggy sleepy eyes and announced to each other that we had no plans for the day. Then sometime around noon, we both realized that there were a few things that probably should get done - i mean if we wanted to eat and wear clean clothes and stuff like that. So we made a big trip to town to do laundry and grocery shopping.  The town i speak of is the one 1.5 miles from our house.  But, it was apparently a big deal anyway. First we stopped at the Family Dollar on the way to the Washateria, where i would be dropped off while hubby went grocery shopping at the big grocery store. This is where the romance happened. There were just a few items to pick up at the FD, including bleach, which i needed for laundry.  We both made a tour through the small store scanning the aisles for items we needed that would be cheaper there tha...

I've been a little light on material the past few days, but i want you to know i have some things rambling around in my head for upcoming posts.  Stay tuned for: Jan's Lazy Man Flan Victorious Conquer Stories of the Old and Roachy Edgar and His Limp (just who is this Edgar anyway?) and How He Sweeps Me Off My Feet with $2.00 worth of Styrofoam . Of course, i haven't forgotten about that shelf.  It will not defeat me. Sweet dreams!

Exhilarating Tales of Yard Mowing

Image
I told you that i put my eggs in the incubator yesterday evening. Well, first thing this morning, the power went out. Geez. In case you aren't familiar, incubators (or at least this one) run on electricity, provided by a power cord.  Thus, incubators don't incubate when the power is out.  For that reason, i'm sincerely hoping there are no hurricanes hitting my area in the next three weeks. I really couldn't do anything for my eggs, so i made the necessary phone call to alert my power company that they weren't really doing their job at that moment, and then i went outside and got to work. After all, there wasn't much i could do inside, and i had plenty of work to do.  I mowed and mowed and mowed. A couple of hours later, the power came back on, and maybe two minutes after that, i also ran out of gas, so i went inside to pray for my eggs. Today was my second day in a row of mowing like i said i would.  And with heavy rains predicted for the rest of this ...

The Great Amazing Easy Beautiful Still-Calling-Me-To-The-Kitchen-To-Eat-Some-More Popovers

Image
It has been so long since i posted a recipe that i know y'all thought that i had given up cooking.  But you're wrong.  And today, specifically, i made one of the best things either of us have ever put in our mouths. Pop-overs. I never even knew what a pop-over was until i was watching one of those shows on the food channel, in which a pile of food gurus tell you their favorite places to eat......appetizers or dessert or hamburgers or whatever.  Well, yesterday, i saw these incredible pop-overs that looked so sensationally good.  So, this evening, i pulled out my 20-something year old Betty Crocker cookbook and found one of the easiest recipes i've ever laid my eyes on. The Ingredients: 4 eggs 2 cups of milk 2 cups of flour 1 teaspoon of salt See, i told ya.  Easiest recipe ever. You just mix 'em up in a big bowl - and don't mix them too much - and then you put 'em in muffin cups and bake 'em. Amazing. Why have i never done this before!? Anyway, here...
