Be Careful! If you get sick and sleep too long, you might wake up and have chickens!

Maybe this'll be a boring post, but it's my blog, and i can bore if i want to.

On Sunday morning, when i started feeling a little sniffly, i thought it must be allergies, and i made sure there was kleenex in my purse and just went on. At church, felt like i should go up for prayer, but i didn't want to, and i did not, and then after church, i just got worse and worse.

I didn't give in though. I cooked a nice Sunday lunch, burned trash, blogged, had adventures with the dixie cups, and was finally able to go to sleep around i think 2-ish in the morning. Monday morning, i got up long enough to establish with my husband that i probably wasn't going to be able to make lunch today and went back to sleep.

I woke up at 10-something, drank some hot tea, and fell back asleep a little before noon. Woke up sometime in the afternoon, i think. At some point i talked on the phone and also looked at my emails. I have no idea, at this point, what my husband ate for dinner. Although, at some point, i think i remember having some sausage. He brought home medicine from the store though, something to be compared to the nighttime sniffling sneezing coughing aching stuffy head fever so you can rest medicine. I took one dose of that. That was good stuff. I was in bed (as opposed to the couch) by about 9:20, and i didn't know much of anything until James left for work. He came home during his break to see how i was feeling (he's such a sweetheart). I assured him i could make lunch, but he looked at me and looked around the house and saw right through me. He got lunch out today.

So i continued to sleep. I remember knowing that he had come home around 5 or something. But i kept sleeping. Then i heard some thump, thump, thumping in the back yard, so i got up to see. I opened the window and saw my loving man fighting with some chicken wire and some pieces of wood in the back yard.

Is this a beginner's chicken coop?

Yep

When are we getting chickens?

We already have them.

????

They're in the car.

So i went to see about chickens in the car, and i rescued them from the car.

And here they are.

Aren't they pretty?

In 20 or so weeks, we should start having fresh eggs. Yumm!

  1. Sounds like fun! Watch the dogs with the eggs, though... When we got our puppy, my grandma horrified me with story after story about how many dogs my grandpa had to shoot out on the farm. She said, "Once those dogs get the taste of chicken eggs, there's just nothing you can do." There was wisdom in her voice. I loved it. :-)

Never thought I could pass that advice on to anyone, and now I can. :-)

  2. haha! glad you could pass it on. i'll remember that. we've been yelling at the dogs as soon as they get anywhere near the birds. i think they've got the idea, but they're just so curious, they can't stand it.
