Chicken Whisperer in Training
In addendum to updates and whatnot....
When i reported on my time at The Call, I said that i estimated 6,000 to 8,000 participants. Since then i have heard estimates from 10,000 to 14,000. AWESOME. I also have for you the local newscast on the day's events here.
In more up-to-date (sort of) news and happenings, i am working on my training to potentially become the Chicken Whisperer (look out Cesar Milan).
I really don't get (as in understand) dogs at all, but i kind of get chickens. I'm not sure what that says about me, but nonetheless, the truth is the truth. So far, i have learned how to face a scary rooster head to head and show him who's really the alpha rooster; i've learned how to teach chickens where home is so that they always come home at night; and i've learned what it looks like when one rooster is in fear for his life and submits to another. That's really kind of funny and sad all at once. The frightened rooster will tuck his head in the corner, stick his but in the air, and hold perfectly still until the coast is clear. I'm convinced the poor guy thinks he's invisible when he does that. But who knows, right?
Anyway, now i am working on the psychology of teaching a chicken to lay her eggs where you tell her to, as in NOT on a ledge. I haven't figured that one completely yet, but i'm close to a break through. Today, she checked out the nest box, apparently found it to be unsuitable, and proceeded to lay her third egg (yay third egg) on the same ledge as the first two. So, i put a big round piece of wood on the ledge. I'm hoping she'll find the nest box preferable tomorrow. ;)
