    Okay, I'm trying to get adjusted to the idea that these are food, not pets.....but all these cute pictures aren't helping me adjust! However I'm completely and utterly intrigued. Can't wait to read how this is all going to shake out.

    Bonnie, maybe i can comfort you with the knowledge that these are pictures of the parents, who we will keep around and love on for quite some time - or at least that's the plan.

    It's their young we plan to eat - which may not be quite as comforting. :/

Let's Break Bread

Let me start by saying that i am NOT an expert in bread-making.  I like to make bread, and my husband likes me to make bread, and i have messed up a lot of bread.  Also i have done a lot of reading and experimenting to learn how to stop messing up the bread. This i will share with you. Today i made basic white bread from a very old Betty Crocker cook book, and i took pictures for you. Every yeast bread recipe made with kneaded dough has certain elements to it, and the following very few tips can be used with any of them......no matter what the recipe says you should do. Tip #1, Take Your Temperature :  The recipe will tell you to take a liquid, usually water or milk, and dissolve the yeast in it.  Usually the recipe says something like "warm water," or "almost hot to the touch," or something else i can't properly decipher with my finger tips.  So i use a wonderful modern invention called a thermometer.   The two types of yeast readily available in th...

Momentous-mous-ness

Three hundred. This post is my 300th post. Ever. I want to write something momentous on my 300th post, and i don't have anything particularly momentous to say. Though, i am sort of floored that i have blathered on quite that much. Well, i mean it took me four years and seven months, and three different blogs, to pull it off.  But the last 149 posts took place all in 2010. And 2010 is only half over.  I hope that my writing and presentation and voice and whatever have improved during that time. O.k., i just looked.  My blog writing has definitely improved during that time. And that was kind of the point.  Or part of it.  It's hard to become a good writer without practice.
